It seems that Zong has finally decided to launch a special package for youth. Zong is advertising on TV Channels since yesterday about its new product, m9.

Expectations and Predictions from m9

There are many expectations found in youth about this m9 package while many telecommunication industry personnel are predicting different aspects of this upcoming service, but in shot that no one is sure about it and there is nothing exact information till now about m9. Pakistan’s telecom sector is growing day by day and number of mobile phone user is also increasing exponentially. Growth rate of Pakistan’s Telecommunication Sector is highest in Asia and also one of the highest in world. Infact, Pakistan’s Mobile Industry is a billion dollar industry, as more than 8 billion USD have been invested in this industry by different companies and government of Pakistan.

There are over 110 million mobile phone subscribers in Pakistan from a total population of about 180 million.

Mobile Phone Operator Companies in Pakistan

Insta Phone and Paktel are the pioneer mobile phone operators in Pakistan. These companies launched their services in Pakistan in 1991. The technology of these companies based on AIMS. Instaphone was closed few years ago due to non payment of license fee to the government while Paktel was purchased by CMPak (China Mobile Company Pakistan Ltd) and it was renamed as Zong.

Telenor

Telenor is a Norwegian company and also one of the most reliable mobile phone service providers in Pakistan. Talk Shawk is very popular among Pakistani Youth. Telenor was established in 2006.

Warid

Warid is a UAE based company. 100% shares of company are owned by The Abu Dhabi Group. It is mainly popular in urban area and businessmen usually like its services.

Zong

Zong has offered its new consumption based offer, Zong Fast 50. Call rates in this package are as low as 50 paisa per 30 seconds on any network throughout in Pakistan.

In Zong Fast 50 Package, as the number of calling minutes increases the call rate decreases. The more the minutes consumed the lesser the calling rates become. Zong Donates Free Mobile Phones for Flood Victims – Free Calling Booths

ZONG has given free handsets, SIMs & EDGE Devices to International Organization for Migrants (IOM) to provide free phone service to flood victims to get vital information, seek help and access relief services offered by the government and other aid agencies. Each phone has a pre-paid SIM card with 800 free minutes a day for at least two months. Collectively, the hundred phones can make slightly over a million free calls. ZONG has also given a free group SMS package to IOM which they will use to broadcast information to the flood affectees using the database that is maintained by them.

IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, inter-governmental and non-governmental partners. IOM has agreed to coordinate the Emergency Shelter Cluster of relief agencies responding to the worst floods that have hit Pakistan in its history, following a request from the UN Humanitarian Coordinator.

International Organizations for Migration is using these handsets and SIMs to establish free calling booths at the relief camps in flood affected areas of the country. On its part ZONG will not be charging these calls, in flood affected areas so that people can get in touch with their families in other parts of the country.

Find complete step by step GPRS settings for your personal computer or Laptop when you want to browse internet websites on your computer or laptop by using your mobile phone's GPRS. Here we will consider Zong as GPRS Service Provider. Follow the following steps:

Modem Settings:

• Connect your Zong GPRS Enabled Mobile Handset via Cable/ Bluetooth/ Infrared...
• Click on Control Pannel from your Start Menu.
• Double Click on "Phone and Modem Options"
• Click on Modem Option
• Select your phone data Modem and Click on "Properties"
• Select 115200 as "Maximum Speed" and click on "Advanced" tab
• Type following string in "Extra Initialization Command"

AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","zonginternet"

• Click OK and you have set up your Zong GPRS enabled handset as Modem.

Dial Up Connection Settings:

Difference between the old package (Rs. 3.99+tax) and new package (Rs. 2.50+tax) is that in old package you enjoy 100 mms along with 500 sms but in new package only 500 sms will be available.

Online Mobile Phone Directory of Pakistan- A Proposal

PTCL (Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation Ltd.) and NTC (National Telecommunication Corporation) are two companies which provide land line telephone services in Pakistan. PTCL provides services commercially to all government offices, private companies and general public while NTC provides its services to only government offices and officials. PTCL has maintained an online data of all of its subscribers and it also published printed directories of its subscribers and name, number and addresses of its subscribers is available to everyone. I could not find any directory of NTC and there may be many reasons of not maintaining a public directory of NTC as it provides services to government offices only and not to the general public. But it is very ironic and unfortunate that why mobile telecommunication companies are not maintaining an "Online Mobile Phone Directory" of their subscribers.

PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) should ask to all mobile companies (Ufone, Mobilink, Zong, Telenor, Warid) to launch a mobile phone directory of their subscribers. Unfortunately, there is not an easy way to find the details of any mobile number of Pakistan, except by involving Police or any other law enforcing agency. So, people cheat with others and tease to others through their mobile phones by not exposing their identity. People also threat to others by using unknown mobile numbers. I think if an online directory of mobile phone numbers is available the crime ratio in Pakistan will reduce considerably.

Beside this, if you want to contact a person (your friend, a doctor, a lawyer...) on his mobile phone, you can't do so if you have not his mobile phone number in your contact list.

PTA should play its role in this matter.
